Chaz & Jukkasil -
What version of DirectX do you have installed on your machines? If either of you have DirectX 8.1 already installed, would you be willing to do me a favor and test my software on your system(s)?
I am not trying to talk you out of what you are using (you both seem to have a great setup), but I really want to know if Dodcap works with a Canopus Raptor card and the Canopus DV Codec. Canopus drivers tend to be proprietary, but if Chaz uses Vidcap32 to capture with the Raptor, then I think Dodcap might work as well.
I would be interested in two things:
1) Does Dodcap work with the Raptor capture card and will it save files using the Canopus DV Codec,
2) How does the speed/performance compare to Vidcap32.
I think it is possible that Chaz could get faster frame rates without "black" frames, but I'm not sure. On my system, I can capture at about 7 fps without any dropped or blurred frames. If I activate on-the-fly speed adjustment I can get about 4 fps without bad frames. With Vidcap32, I cannot even do 3 fps capture without blurred frames.
Here is my system configuration:
PIII 1.0GHz
256MB RAM
OHCI IEEE-1394 Card
3dfx Voodoo3 3500TV Graphics Card
AWE64 Creative Labs Sound Card
20GB System Hard Drive
Two 40GB capture drives & cheap Adaptec RAID0 Card
Sony DCR-TRV8 NTSC DV Camera
WorkPrinter-2 (~6fps w/variable speed dial)
Windows 2000 with NTFS File System
I haven't released a Windows 98 SE version of Dodcap, but I am hoping to do that within the next couple of weeks.
If you guys are too busy to try it out, that's fine, but I would love it if I could find out whether this works on a Raptor or not.
Thanks!

I should clarify that I am using Raptor's 'Analog Capture Kit' software, and capturing via the S-Video port on the card. This software can capture 720/480, but drops a lot of frames at 29.97 fps. It does smaller resolutions fine at full frame rate, and also for the stop motion capturing of films at full size.
Also, I actually only removed 2 of the 3 shutter blades, so the black frames are captured when the film is being moved and the 3rd blade is covering the gate. I left it this way so I would see black instead of a blurry image. Easier to spot problems. I tested and moved the limit switch's location to the best position. But this was a random problem, occuring every 10 seconds or so.
I believe stop motion via RaptorEdit is via firewire.
I do use DX8.1 I would be interested in trying your software with my Raptor. I would also be interested in any program that would let me capture at faster rates.
I have ScenalyzerLive, which is a great program for an OHCI card. It has a 'fake' Canopus capture setting, so I can capture DV footage that the Raptor recognises.
I edit with the Raptor Codec and MSP, as it is very stable, and I don't care for Premiere.
